I've been a gamer all my life, ever since I developed
the necessary motor skills to manouver the clunky piece of hardware known today as the Atari joystick. Games have long since
evolved from pixelated blips shooting other pixelated blips, now they're more like interactive movies, with PLOTS! No more
wondering why you're shooting blue bees in space, they TELL YOU WHY!
Even with all the technological leaps and bounds,
sometimes it's still more satisfying to sit through an old nintendo game for the 38th time, where the focus was on good old
fashioned fun without the snazzy special effects and terrible voice acting. And now thanks to the wonderful world of roms,
we can all relive the magic. While roms are, when you get down to it, illegal, it's common knowledge that these games aren't
available for purchase anymore, and thus most game developers actually don't care about rom downloading. Although some of
the big names like Mario and Zelda and some major companies' games (like Square) are for the most part protected from downloads,
because chances are there's still major demand for their games and i doubt they'd want to give them away for free. A lot of
these games are being rereleased for the newer consoles in their classic form, which i think is great. Hopefully they're selling
ok, so we can see more classic games resurface that we won't have to play on computer monitors that shut off every ten minutes
for no apparent reason. (No doubt a problem exclusive to me, but whatever...)
The rules for downloading roms are as follows:
you can download them as long as you own the actual cartridge of the game you are downloading. If you don't own the original,
you have to delete the rom after 24 hours. It's basically like renting it from the video store, except it's always in :) Of
course, there's no rom police hunting you down if you don't delete the file after a day, and 90% of the roms out there are
junk the developers want swept under the rug anyway. I just don't download roms of currently available games, that's my one
rule. Now that that's out of the way, I'd like to bring to your attention to the real reason i made this page. I'd like to
open your eyes to the absolute nuttiness that is classic gaming. As i said before, some older games left it up to you to come
up with a story, or as in the case of such catastrophes as Zero Wing for the Sega Genesis, gave you a story which was
probably written by semi-literate gibbons. (And don't get me started on the ending..)
Some of these games you may remember
fondly, some of them may be new to you, some of them have scarred me for life. Enjoy!
